Mrityunjaya Reviews

Seven years after it was first conceived, Mrityunjaya, is finally ready to meet its audience.
Nurtured by love, the album has been shaped by the band’s firm belief in the immortal nature of the human soul. Consequently, the music itself has evolved over the years into an entity that we believe will stand the test of time.

Mrityunjaya is an album that has the potential to change the way music is perceived around the world. It is bound to open new avenues for musicians all around and mark the beginning of a new era in Indian music.

It is a sound that has not been heard before. All the songs in the new album are based on classical ragas - though the band does not use any Indian instruments. They are as hard as rock can get, but each song has an underlying melody that has always been the hallmark of good Indian music.

More importantly, for the first time ever, a band has written songs which are entirely bilingual - in English and Hindi. Agni also plans to record the songs, eventually, in Tamil-English and Bengali-English, thus opening up territories hereto-fore uncharted. The themes of the songs are powerful, moving and universal. Themes like Tandav, Agni, Mrityunjaya, Desh... are the perfect evolution of an Indian rock band

The album has 8 songs and the mix is such that it will appeal to various sections of listeners as well as appeal to them in various moods. There are invocations to gods, hard rocking numbers, soft ballads, tender melancholic moods and even blues. All in a language that the urban crowd as well as the masses will connect to easily.

Mrityunjaya essentially means Victor Over Death. The album is a tribute to our bass player Juggie and manager Mandy, who may have left us physically, but they are still here with us in our hearts, minds and souls.
